How our plumber referrals work

The short version

McKinney Plumbing Guide is a referral service. We don't employ plumbers and we don't carry out plumbing work. When you call or send a request, we connect you with an independent plumbing business that serves the McKinney area. That business talks to you directly, quotes the job, and does the work if you decide to go ahead.

Step by step

1. You tell us what's wrong. Call us or use the request form. A few details help: what you're seeing, where in the house, how long it's been going on, and whether water is still running.
2. We connect you with a local professional. We pass your request to an independent plumbing business that handles that kind of job in your area. We don't sell the same request to a long list of companies.
3. The plumber contacts you, or takes your call. They'll confirm when they can come out and how they charge. Scheduling and pricing are set by the plumbing business, not by us.
4. You decide. You're free to ask questions, get a written estimate, compare it with other quotes, or say no. You never owe us anything.

What it costs

Using this site and asking for a referral is free for you. Plumbing businesses may pay us a fee for referrals. That's how the site, including the free guides, is funded. It doesn't change what you're entitled to: a clear written estimate before work starts and the right to decline. See our referral disclosure for the details.

What we do, and what we don't

We do:

• Publish practical guides to help you understand a plumbing problem before anyone arrives
• Connect you with an independent plumbing professional for your type of job and location
• Keep the information you share to what's needed to make that connection (see our privacy policy)

We don't:

• Perform plumbing work, or send out our own technicians
• Set prices, guarantee availability or promise response times
• Take payment for plumbing work
• Represent the City of McKinney or any utility

Checking the plumber yourself

Plumbing in Texas is regulated by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. Before work starts, ask the plumber for their license number and check it on the TSBPE consumer information page. A plumbing company's estimates and invoices should show its responsible master plumber's name and license number. Master plumber numbers start with "M".

If there's an emergency

If water is pouring out, shut off your main valve first. If you smell gas, leave the building and call 911 or your gas utility from outside. For leaks at the meter or in the street, call the city's Water/Wastewater line on 972-547-7360. We're a referral service, not an emergency dispatcher.
